AMALIE DIDERIKSEN / DENMARK
LIKE AMY AND JOLIEN, AMALIE DIDERIKSEN ALSO
COMBINES THE ROAD RACING SEASON WITH A VERY
AMBITIOUS CAREER IN TRACK CYCLING. HER MEDALS IN
THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS PROVE THE EFFECTIVENESS
OF HER APPROACH. THIS COMBINATION GIVES THE YOUNG
DANISH RIDER A STRONG BASIS AND ALL THE MOTIVATION
SHE NEEDS FOR THE ROAD RACING SEASON.
“MY BODY REACTS WELL TO A TRACK CYCLING SEASON IN
COMBINATION WITH RACING ON THE ROAD.”
Dideriksen is eager to learn and feels completely at home as a rider
for the Boels-Dolmans team, of which she has been a member for
four years now. “The atmosphere is particularly good, we ride for
each other and are happy to help our teammates achieve personal
successes”. Dideriksen, who is also supported by the Danish national
coach in addition to team leader Stam, has unshakeable faith in
the team’s approach to cycle racing. “I have absolute confidence in
Danny and the way in which he and the staff prepare us for the new
season each year. The system works and allows us to race flexibly
and adopt an offensive riding strategy. That benefits me personally.”
Last year, Dideriksen had to skip a number of races due to illness.
Even so, she can look back on a good road racing season. “I did not
win many races but I played a part in some great victories for the
team and I am proud of that contribution.” In addition, Dideriksen
won a stage in the Tour of Britain for the team and even crossed the
finishing line in first position twice in the Boels Ladies Tour. “Due to
less than ideal preparation, I certainly didn’t expect the stage wins
in the Ladies Tour. All the better for me and the team. Teamwork and
a belief in my own abilities brought me these victories.”
"I WANT TO BECOME
STRONGER, PLAY A MORE
PROMINENT ROLE DURING
THE FINAL KILOMETRES IN
THE RACES AND HELP MY
TEAMMATES BETTER"
Dideriksen says that she wants to grow stronger and more
balanced and develop into more of an all-round rider with a strong
final sprint to the line. “I want to become stronger, play a more
prominent role during the final kilometres in the races and help my
teammates better. Secretly, she dreams of winning one of the major
Classics. After some probing, she hesitantly says that she would
like to win the Tour of Flanders in the future. “But I am not ready
yet; we are working steadily to develop a more powerful and balanced
riding style. I hope that everybody will see these improvements
in the new season.”
