CHRISTINE MAJERUS / LUXEMBOURG
THE 32-YEAR-OLD RIDER FROM LUXEMBOURG IS ABOUT
TO START HER SIXTH SEASON FOR THE TEAM.
THIS MAKES HER ONE OF THE VETERANS IN THE SQUAD.
In the winter, Majerus generally competes in cyclo-cross. This combi-
nation ensures that she is well prepared at the start of the new
season. “I have used this combination for years. I am not a big fan
of training camps. I prefer to prepare at home, training hard every
day and giving everything at cyclo-cross events at the weekends.
I think I have found a good balance now and I love cross too much
for not doing it .”
Majerus had a good season last year. She achieved 18th overall on
the UCI world rankings list. Majerus looks back at the world championship
cyclo-cross in Valkenburg and the Elsy Jacobs Festival
with particular pleasure. She narrowly finished in fourth place in the
world championship and won a stage in the Luxembourg multi-day
race, in which she finished second overall. In addition to these
excellent performances, she achieved several podium finishes but
has mixed feelings about them because she was just edged out on
the line. “It was a good year but not perfect by a long shot; I want to
carry on improving and make a great contribution to the team.”
As an accomplished all-rounder who shows no lack of motivation
and team spirit, Majerus intends to raise the bar in 2019. “I want to
be in reasonable good shape for the Cross Worlds. Then I want to
focus in May and June on Elsy Jacobs and the Women’s Tour (Tour
of Britain).” She has also tentatively circled the World Championships
in Yorkshire. I still have a bone to pick with the World Championships,
and this course suits me. If I can get myself in shape on time, anything
is possible.”
"I WANT TO KEEP
GROWING AS A RIDER
AND BE A GREAT
CONTRIBUTION
TO THE TEAM"
The rider from Luxembourg is a mainstay of Danny Stam's team.
Last season, she competed in seventeen one-day races and six
stage races. She is a team player who has found her place in
the Boels-Dolmans squad. “Everybody here is so motivated and
passionately involved in the sport. Obviously, that applies to my
teammates, but also to the complete support staff and our sponsors.
It is good to know that you are riding for a team that truly has your
best interests at heart. That motivates me and brings out the best
in me.” Majerus dreamed of riding for a top professional team in
women’s cycling from an early age. “At least I can say that I have
fulfilled my dream. I am proud of our results; the best team in the
world, with the individual world champion in the squad for the last
four years running.
